How Much Faith Do I Need?

One day we got a  tragic phone call that our nephew had been in a horrible car accident. We had no details at the time but learned later he had sustained a traumatic brain injury and was unconscious.  When we arrived the severity of his life threatening injuries were made apparent.

We had  been praying for him and realized at this point it was only through God’s divine intervention that he would recover. Our entire family along with other family friends began a prayer journey that included praying for the doctors, nurses, physical therapists, and every detail of his recovery.

You may ask why we would pray so boldly in such a very dire situation. In a word, it is all about trust. It was not about how much faith we had quantity-wise, it was that we trusted in a loving God. We had faith in God the creator of heaven and earth who is good. When you look at God’s character and realize how much He loves us, you can go to Him with bold, persistent and brave prayer.

“For the Lord is good; His mercy and lovingkindness are everlasting, His faithfulness (endures) to all generations” (Psalm 11:5 AMP).

Tim Keller in his book on prayer stated it this way: “There is no such thing as unanswered prayer from a child of God. Why not? We have the assurance that God, our Heavenly Father, always wants the best for his children. God will either give us what we ask for or give us what we would have asked if we knew everything He knew.”

Over the weeks and months ahead, we saw many miraculous answers to prayer. One of the greatest examples was simply the day Garrett fully woke up. This was many weeks after his accident while he was in a rehab center in Dallas. I praise God for the faithful prayers of so many people.

There are too many glorious praises to list, but I will tell you first and foremost, Garrett gives God the glory for all He has done in his life and boldly shares this message.  Garrett has finished his degree, has a great job and is married to a wonderful godly woman who loves him dearly.

Be mindful of Max Lucado’s words, “intercessory prayer acknowledges our inability and God’s ability.”  Step out boldly in prayer knowing how loved we are as believers.

Dear Holy Father, I praise you and thank you for you are good, and your love endures forever. You are gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy. You are good to all, and your tender mercies are over all your works. Help me  to come boldly to you in prayer, to be transparent, to open my eyes to your perfect will. I trust you and put my faith in you.  (Psalm 136:1; Psalm 145:8-9)
